Carrie Fisher – actress and novelist

Carrie Fisher is an American actress, screenwriter and novelist, the daughter of actress Debbie Reynolds and singer Eddie Fisher. She became famous after her role of Princess Leia Organa in film series Star Wars.
Carrie Fisher was born on October 21, 1956 in Beverly Hills, California. Her father Eddie Fisher was a crooner and her mother Mary Frances was an actress, known under the name Debbie Reynolds. Carrie has a younger brother, Todd Fisher. Her two half-sisters, Joely Fisher and Tricia Leigh Fisher, are also actresses. When Carrie was 2 years old, her parents divorced and her father married actress Elizabeth Taylor. The following year, her mother married Harry Karl, the owner of a chain of shoe stores.
Carrie’s dream was to become an actress like her mother. Her debut was in 1973 in the musical Irene, the revival of the Broadway hit, where she acted together with her mother.

In the movie, Fisher made her debut in 1975 in the drama Shampoo. The role of Princess Leia Organa in the fantasy blockbuster “Star Wars. Episode IV. New Hope” made her famous. The actress starred in two sequels “Star Wars. Episode V. The Empire Strikes Back” and “Star Wars. Episode VI. Return of the Jedi”. Between these episodes, she participated in the musical “The Blues Brothers” and the romantic comedy “Under the Rainbow”.

In the new millennium, she starred in the romantic comedy Heartbreakers, youth comedy Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, the musical Unsolved, adventure comedy Fans, horror film Sorority Row, the melodrama Stateside, and thriller White Lightnin’.
Fisher starred in a continuation of the famous saga Star Wars: The Force Awakens, where she played the role of Leia Organa again.
Carrie’s autobiographical novel “Postcards from the Edge” is dedicated to her complicated relationship with the mother. In 1991 Mike Nichols made the eponymous film with Meryl Streep in the title role.
Three years later, she wrote the novel Surrender the Pink based on her relationship with the only official husband, Paul Simon.
Another semi-autobiographical novel Delusions of Grandma was released in 1993. After a nearly 10-year break, she released Hollywood Moms (2001) and The Best Awful There Is (2004).

In July 2015 Carrie Fisher announced that she was going to write memories of filming in the famous film series.
Carrie Fisher died on December 27, 2016 in Los Angeles at the age of 60. Her mother Debbie Reynolds died from a stroke on the next day, December 28, during the organization of her daughter’s funeral.

Personal life
In 1977 Fisher began dating singer and musician Paul Simon. They parted 6 years later because the actress met Canadian comedian Dan Aykroyd. But soon she returned to Simon and married him in 1983. The marriage lasted 11 months.
In 1990, Fisher began dating Brian Lourdes. In 1992 their daughter Billie Catherine Lourdes was born. Soon Brian and Carrie broke up.
In 2003, the actress was in a romantic relationship with the singer James Blunt, who was 15 years younger.
In 2005, Fisher had a love affair with a politician from the Republican Party, Greg Stevens, who was found dead of a drug overdose at her villa in Beverly Hills.
