Mel Gibson – famous actor
Mel Gibson is an Australian and American actor, director, screenwriter and producer, winner of two Oscars and Golden Globe award for directing the drama Braveheart, Honorary Officer of the Order of Australia.
Mel was born on January 3, 1956 in Peekskill, New York, the USA. His full name is Mel Colm-Cille Gerard Gibson. He was born into a family of Irish-Catholics and was the sixth of eleven children. In 1968 the Gibsons moved to Australia.
He got started in the acting business by accident. When he was a boy his dream was to be a journalist. But his sister knew he’d be a good actor, and she put his name down for the Academy without even telling her brother.
After graduating from an Australian school, Mel joined the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney.
Mel began his acting in classical pieces of drama with the Australian Theatre Company.
