Mel Gibson – famous actor

Mel Gibson is an Australian and American actor, director, screenwriter and producer, winner of two Oscars and Golden Globe award for directing the drama Braveheart, Honorary Officer of the Order of Australia.
Mel was born on January 3, 1956 in Peekskill, New York, the USA. His full name is Mel Colm-Cille Gerard Gibson. He was born into a family of Irish-Catholics and was the sixth of eleven children. In 1968 the Gibsons moved to Australia.
He got started in the acting business by accident. When he was a boy his dream was to be a journalist. But his sister knew he’d be a good actor, and she put his name down for the Academy without even telling her brother.
After graduating from an Australian school, Mel joined the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney.
Mel began his acting in classical pieces of drama with the Australian Theatre Company.

He debuted in the Australian film Mad Мах by George Miller in 1979. He appeared in several more Australian films and won an Australian Academy Award for Best Actor.
Gibson became world famous after his role in Mad Max 2 in 1981. The actor began acting in Hollywood, where he made his debut in the movie The Bounty (1984).
In 1985 People magazine called him first ever Sexiest Man Alive.
In the early 1990s, Gibson and his partner Bruce Davey founded their own production company, Icon Productions. Gibson’s debut as a director was the film The Man Without a Face.
In 1995, his second film Braveheart grossed more than $200 million worldwide and earned five Oscars.
Action drama Ransom, directed by Ron Howard, brought Gibson his first Golden Globe Award nomination as best actor.
In 2004, Gibson directed the film The Passion of the Christ. It shocked the audience with extremely violent scenes and detailed re-creation of the Palestine of the beginning of our era by the use of Aramaic, Latin and Hebrew languages spoken by the time of Christ. The film is an attempt to recreate in detail the last twelve hours of Jesus Christ’s life. The Passion of the Christ was highly appreciated by the Pope John Paul II.
In 2006, Mel released another historical epic – Apocalypto, dedicated to the last period of the Mayan civilization.
In 2012 he began to work on the film Seven Nights.

Personal life
In 1980, Gibson married Robyn Moore and produced seven children – two daughters and five sons – Hanna (1981), twins Edward and Christian (1983), Willy (1986), Louis (1988), Milo (1991) and Tommy (2000).

In 2010 Gibson had a love affair with Oksana Grigorieva. She gave birth to their daughter Lucia.

On December 26, 2011 Gibson and Robyn Moore divorced.
In October 2012 it became known about his new affair with athlete Ashley Cusato.
In 2015, Mel Gibson became the father of the ninth child. The kid’s mother is acrobat Rosalind Ross.
