Michael Schumacher – true legend of Formula One

Michael Schumacher is a German race car driver. He is seven-time world champion, two-time vice-champion and three times bronze medalist. Michael is a winner of many Formula 1 records. Arguably the greatest F1 driver in history, Schumacher is also one of the highest-paid athletes in the world.
Michael Schumacher was born on January 3, 1969 in North Rhine-Westphalia.
His career began with driving a kart built by his father Rolf manager of the local go-kart track. Michael began driving at the age of four and 5-year-old boy successfully took part in kart racing. In childhood, Michael was engaged in other sports, such as judo. At the age of 14, he received his first racing license and began taking part in official competitions. In 1984 – 1987 Michael won several German and European kart championships. In 1990 he received the title in the German Formula 3. In 1991 he performed in Japanese Formula 3000.

In 1992, Michael won his first Formula 1 race where he took the third place.
In 1996, Schumacher signed a contract with Ferrari.
A crash in 1999 at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, England almost took Schumacher out of racing. Despite the crash, Schumacher finished the season in fifth place.
In 2000 he became first Ferrari world champion in 21 years. In 2001 Michael broke Alain Prost’s record for most wins and most points and in 2002 tied Juan Manuel Fangio’s record of five world-championship titles.
On December 29, 2013 Schumacher with his son and his friends went to the ski slopes in the French Alps. The racer fell down and hit his head. There were two neurosurgical operations and he was put into a medically induced coma. On June 16 sportsman’s manager said that Michael left hospital in order to continue a long rehabilitation.
On October 25, 2006, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum presented Schumacher with an island in the area of artificial archipelago The World.
In 2008, the Swiss Football Association chose Schumacher as Ambassador of Switzerland to the European football championship.
On June 21, 2009 Schumacher appeared in the scientific and entertainment program Top Gear.

Michael’s family lives in Switzerland, near Lake Geneva, in the town of Vufflens-le-Chateau.
His brother Ralph also became famous racing driver.
His wife Corinna Schumacher (nee Betsch) was born on March 2, 1969 in the town of Halver, Germany. On August 1, 1995 their wedding took place. Their daughter Gina-Maria was born on February 20, 1997. The girl is engaged in horseback riding. Their son was born on March 22, 1999. As a young race car driver he took part in the team competition, but under surname Betsch so as not to attract attention.
