Andre Ward – professional boxer

Andre Ward is an American undefeated professional boxer. He is US Amateur champion (1999, 2001-2003), Olympic light heavyweight champion (2004), world WBA champion (2009-2015), WBC champion (2011-2013), The Ring champion (2011-2015), world light heavyweight boxing champion (2016-present). In 2009 he was NABF middleweight champion. In 2011 The Ring magazine recognized him as the Boxer of the Year. His nickname is Son of god.
Andre Ward was born on February 23, 1984 in San Francisco, California. His father, Frank Ward, has Irish roots and his mother, Madeline Taylor Hervey, African-American. When Andre was still young, the family moved to another California city – Auckland. There he started boxing at the age of nine. The first and still the only Andre’s coach is Virgil Hunter. At school Andre was also engaged in American football.
For achievements in the amateur boxing Andre can be called a “golden boy”. From 1998 till the end of amateur career in 2004, Ward hadn’t lost any of the official fight.

In 1999 he won US Cadet Championships, the following year he became a winner of US Championship. In 2002 Andre won gold at US Junior Championships. Then followed 2003 Titans Games – gold, 2003 US Championship – Gold, and 2004 Titans Games – gold.
As an amateur, Ward won a gold medal in the light heavyweight division at the 2004 Olympics and turned professional later that year. Ward is the last to the present time Olympic boxing champion from the United States. His record in the amateurs is 115 wins and 4 losses (according to other sources 114 and 5).

Ward made his debut in professional boxing in December 2004.
In July 2007 Ward won his first title – North America champion.
On February 6, 2009 Ward defeated Henry Buchman and won another title in North America.
In May 2009 he won the fight against Edison Miranda and became world middleweight champion.
In December 2009, Ward fought against world champion Mikkel Kessler and won after 10 rounds at Super Six World Boxing Classic
In January 2015, Andre has signed a contract with the promotion company Roc Nation Sports owned by renowned music artist Sean Jay-Z Carter. After that, his ring-career was revived.

On June 20, 2015, after almost a two-year break Ward came back. His opponent was Briton Paul Smith. Ward won by TKO and successfully returned to the ring.
On March 26, 2016 Andre fought against unbeaten Cuban Sullivan Barrera, whose coach was the famous coach Abil Sanchez. Ward made a successful debut in the new division, and took a step to fight against the leader Sergey Kovalev.
The fight Sergey Kovalev vs. Andre Ward took place on November 19, 2016 in Las Vegas. Andre won the fight.
In 2015 Ward starred in the film Creed as the light heavyweight boxer Danny “Stuntman” Wheeler.

In 2009 Ward married his high school sweetheart Tiffiney. They have three sons and a daughter.
