Avril Lavigne – Anything but Ordinary
Avril Lavigne was born on September 27, 1984 in Belleville, Ontario, Canada. She says she’s really proud to be Canadian. She misses Canada a lot when she is away from home. Her full name is Avril Ramona Lavigne. Avril means ‘April’ in French. Avril Lavigne’s friends call her Av for short. She is outspoken and rebellious. She wears baggy trousers and rides a skateboard. Avril is the middle child of three — she has a brother, Matthew, who’s almost two years older, and a sister, Michelle, who’s three years younger.
The girl began performing at the age of two singing church songs along with her mother. She always knew she would be a singer. Using her dad’s guitar Avril taught herself to play it at the age of 10. She can also play the piano and the drums.
At the age of 12 Avril started writing songs. It was a kind of therapy for the girl when she got upset.
At 16, Avril moved to Manhattan and started working on her debut CD — Let Co. Losing Crip — her favourite song on Let Go — is about one of her ex-boyfriends who didn’t value her enough.
Avril broke a record set by Madonna. Her song Complicated remained at Number One in the charts for 11 weeks. Madonna’s song Music stayed at Number One for 10 weeks.
On July 15, 2006 Avril married Deryck Whibley, the lead singer of a popular Canadian group Sum 41. They parted in 2010. The love story of Avril Lavigne and Chad Kruger – lead singer of Nickelback – began in February 2012. Avril was in black wedding dress!
The singer’s hobbies are camping, skate-boarding, hunting and hockey. At school she played hockey better than many boys!
Avril has a pizza named after her at a restaurant in her home town.
In 2008, Avril became a fashion designer. She designs clothes for teenagers in rock-and-roll glam style.
Her favourite colours are black and red.
