Diana, Princess of Wales was the most charismatic and publicly adored member of the British royal family. From 1981 to 1996, she was the first the wife of Prince Charles of Wales, heir to the British throne. She was widely known as Princess Diana, Lady Diana and Lady Di. In 2002, according to the survey, Diana took the third place in the list of one hundred greatest Britons in history. She became the most photographed woman in the world.
Diana, Princess of Wales was born Diana Frances Spencer on July 1, 1961 in Sandringham, Norfolk. She was the third of the Lord and Lady Althorp’s four children. Her parents got divorced when she was very young. In 1976 the Earl Spencer married Raine Legge, the daughter of British romance novelist Barbara Cartland. His children and their stepmother had a stormy relationship. Diana went to a private girls’ school in Switzerland. When she returned to England, she worked as a kindergarten teacher.

Louis XIV was an important king in the history of France. He was called “the Sun King.” He brought the French monarchy to its peak of absolute power and made France the dominant power in Europe. His reign is also associated with the greatest age of French culture and art.
Louis was born on September 5, 1638 at Saint-Germain into the family of Louis XIII and his wife, Anne of Austria.
On May 16, 1643, his father died and Louis became King of France at the age of five. The country was governed by his mother as regent and at the age of 17 he ruled the country alone. However, he was carefully guided by Cardinal Jules Mazarin, who had been the protege of Cardinal Richelieu. After the death of Cardinal Mazarin in 1661 the young king declared that he would rule on his own, without assigning a first minister.

She spoke nine languages, was a good mathematician, and had a great head for business. She used her intelligence and her beauty to hold on to power. She was a queen of ancient Egypt and wanted to make her country more powerful.
Cleopatra was born in 69 BC in the city of Alexandria in Egypt. She was the second daughter of King Ptolemy XII. When her father died in 51 BC, 18-year-old Cleopatra was supposed to rule Egypt with her 15-year-old brother, Ptolemy XIII. Her brother’s supporters drove Cleopatra from power. In 47 BC Caesar defeated Ptolemy XIII’s forces, and Cleopatra returned to the throne.
When Ptolemy died, Cleopatra married her 11-year-old brother, because she couldn’t rule alone by law.
Cleopatra lived with Julius Caesar and gave birth to their son Caesarion.

Jacqueline was born on July 28, 1929. Her mother was Janet Lee Bouvier, and her father, though named John Vernon Bouvier III, was known by all as Black Jack. Her parents divorced in 1940, but her mother married wealthy Hugh Dudley Auchincloss, which permitted Jacqueline and her sister Lee to live on in wealth.
She studied at Vassar College, at the University of Grenoble and the Sorbonne, and graduated from George Washington University.
While working as a photographer for the Washington Times Herald Jacqueline met John F. Kennedy.

John F. Kennedy was the 35th president of the United States. He was the youngest person ever elected to the presidency. His assassination in 1963 shocked the country and the world.
John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born on May 29, 1917, in Brookline, Massachusetts. He was the second of nine children born to Joseph and Rose Kennedy. His father held government posts under President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
In 1940 Kennedy graduated from Harvard University. He completed his honors thesis, “Appeasement in Munich,” which was subsequently published as Why England Slept. During World War II he joined the U.S. Navy. He became an intelligence officer with the rank of lieutenant junior grade in Washington, D.C.
In 1946 Massachusetts voters elected Kennedy, a Democrat, to the U.S. House of Representatives. In 1951 Kennedy spent 6 weeks traveling in Great Britain, France, Italy, Spain, Yugoslavia, and West Germany.

King Edward VIII gave up the throne because he was in love.
He was King of England for only one year, 1936. After his abdication Edward VIII (1894-1972) was Duke of Windsor.
The eldest son of George, Duke of York, and his wife, Princess Mary of Tech, Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David was born on June 23, 1894, at Richmond Park, Surrey.
In order to prepare Prince Edward for his future responsibilities, his parents decided to have him trained for the Royal Navy. In 1907 he was sent to Osborne and from 1909 to 1911 attended the Royal Naval College at Dartmouth.
In 1911 he was invested as Prince of Wales in an impressive ceremony at Caernarvon Castle, Wales. In 1912 he was sent to Oxford to complete his education.
The eldest son of George V, Prince Edward (known to his family as David) was very popular with the British people.
