Ellen Pompeo is an American actress, best known for her role of Meredith Grey in the TV series Grey’s Anatomy. She is one of the highest paid persons on television with the fee 350 thousand dollars for a single episode of the show.
Ellen Pompeo was born on November 10, 1969 in Everett, Massachusetts. She is of Irish and Italian descent and was raised as a Catholic. Her mother died of a painkiller overdose when Ellen was four years old, and her father soon remarried.
In the early 1990s, she worked as a bartender in one of New York clubs where she found an agent. Soon she appeared in several television commercials, made for television, and in 1996 she made her debut as a professional actress in an episode of the television series Law & Order.
In 2001 Pompeo moved to Los Angeles. A year later, she got her first major role in her career – in the movie Moonlight Mile, where she starred with Jake Gyllenhaal. Then she starred in such films as Daredevil, Catch Me If You Can and Old School.
In 2004, Pompeo got her first starring role in the television series Grey’s Anatomy on the ABC channel, which tells about the life of the interns, doctors and other hospital staff. Its premiere took place in spring 2005 and the show quickly became one of the biggest hits in television history. The actress received several prestigious awards including US Screen Actors Guild Award and was also nominated for Golden Globe in 2007.
Personal life
On November 9, 2007 Ellen married music producer Chris Ivery. They have three children: two daughters, Stella Luna Pompeo Ivery (born on September 15, 2009) and Sienna Mae Ivery (born in August 2014 via a surrogate mother) and son Eli Christopher (born on December 29, 2016).
