Kate Winslet – British actress
Kate Winslet is a British film and theater actress. In 1991, Kate made her debut on British television. And in 1994 she debuted in the film Heavenly Creatures. World fame came to her in 1997 after her role in the disaster movie Titanic, for which she received her second nomination for Oscar. Kate is also a singer and her single What If was a hit in several European countries. Winslet is the winner of numerous awards, including Oscar (2009), three BAFTA awards (1996, 2009, 2016), four Golden Globe awards (2009 – twice, 2012, 2016), Emmy (2011) and Honorary Cesar Award (2012).
Kate Elizabeth Winslet was born on October 5, 1975 in Berkshire, United Kingdom. Her parents are actors. Kate has two sisters and a brother.
At the age of 11 the girl began attending Redroofs Theatre School and a year later she starred in Sugar Puffs commercial.
In 1990 she made her debut on television in the film Shrinks and then starred in the TV series.
In 1991, the young actress had a relationship with twenty-eight-year-old actor Stephen Tredre. They were together for four years, and in 1997 Stephen died of cancer. Also in the early 1990s, Kate occasionally played in the theater – so she performed the role of Wendy in the play Peter Pan.
In 1994, Kate played in the thriller Heavenly Creatures directed by Peter Jackson and received prize as Best Actress.
Film Sense and Sensibility, based on the classic novel written by Jane Austen, was an important milestone in the development of her career. Winslet received three awards.
In 1997 Kate became a star overnight. The film Titanic directed by James Cameron won a record number of film awards, including 11 Oscars.
In 1998, on the set of the film The Express to Marrakesh Kate met assistant director James Threapleton and married him on November 22, 1998.
In 2000, Kate took part in the recording of the album Listen To the Storyteller and won Grammy award.
In 2004, the actress starred together with Jim Carrey in the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. In the same year she played together with Johnny Depp in Marc Forster’s biographical drama Finding Neverland about a few months in the life of writer James Barry.
In late 2008, Kate starred in two films Revolutionary Road and The Reader. Revolutionary Road was a reunion of Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio for the first time since 1997.
On February 22, 2009 the actress finally received Oscar for the role of Hannah in the film The Reader.
On March 17, 2014 she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In 2005, Kate joined the list of 50 most beautiful people in the world according to People magazine.
Personal life
At the age of 16, Kate met actor and writer Stephen Tredre. They broke up in 1995 but remained close friends. Two years later Stephen died of bone cancer.
On November 22, 1998 Kate married James Threapleton. Their daughter was born in 2000. However, the marriage did not last long – in December 2001, Kate and James divorced.
Film director Sam Mendes became her second husband. The wedding took place on May 24, 2003. Their son was born on December 22, 2003 in New York. In March 2010, Kate and Sam announced their separation and in the same year their marriage broke up.
In August 2011, Kate met millionaire Ned Rocknroll. On December 2, 2012 their wedding ceremony took place. On December 7, 2013 they became parents of a boy.
