Kelly Clarkson is an American singer and actress. She gained fame after participating in a TV show American Idol in 2002 and represented the United States in World Idol competition in 2003. More than 10.5 million copies of her albums were sold in the US.
Kelly Brianne Clarkson was born on April 24, 1982 in Fort Worth, Texas. She is the third and the youngest child of teacher Jeanne Ann Rose and former Canadian engineer Stephen Michael Clarkson. Kelly has brother Jason and sister Alyssa. When Kelly was six years old, her parents divorced after seventeen years of marriage. His brother went with their father, sister went to live with an aunt, and Kelly stayed with her mother. They constantly moved from place to place throughout Texas and her mother worked at various jobs to support her family. Eventually, the family settled in Burleson, where Kelly’s mother married Jimmy Taylor.
Clarkson attended Pauline Hughes Middle School. At first, she wanted to become a marine biologist, but once the teacher heard her singing in a hallway and asked her to join the school choir. Later she studied at Burleson high School and began to play in musicals such as Brigadoon.
After graduating from high school, in 2000, Kelly began working several jobs to pay for a demo, which she hoped to send to record companies. Then she decided to move to Hollywood. Clarkson played in the TV series Sabrina – Teenage Witch and Show 80, also played a cameo role in the film Issues 101, released in 2001. After six months in Hollywood, when her apartment burned down, Kelly returned to her native Texas, where she played in the theater, worked as a bartender, sang in the theme park Six Flags and advertised Red Bull.
On September 4, 2002 Kelly became a winner of the first season of American Idol. Clarkson performed the ballad A Moment Like This, which was written for the American Idol winner. Later, the song appeared on her debut album Thankful and in October 2002 it managed to jump from the 52nd place to the 1st.
In December 2003 Clarkson took the second place in World Idol. She performed Aretha Franklin’s song (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.
In 2003 Kelly met producers Rhett Lawrence and Clif Magnes. Shortly after American Idol she signed a contract with RCA Records.
On April 15, 2003 Clarkson released her debut album Thankful in North America, which debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200.
Her single Miss Independent was awarded Grammy in 2004.
On November 30, 2004 she released her second studio album Breakaway which is the most successful album of Idol. The song Breakaway is the soundtrack for the film The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004) and achieved considerable success in the world. The single became the third in the career of the singer to appear in the US top 10.
The video for the song Because Of You won the 2006 MTV Video Music Award for Best Female Video.
My December, her third album, was released in the US on June 26, 2007. The album debuted at number two in the US with 291,000 albums sold.
The fourth album, All I Ever Wanted, was released on 10 March 2009 and won Grammy Award. Clarkson toured around the world with this album, including Europe, South Africa, Oceania and Asia. The tour ended in China in May 2010.
Clarkson’s fifth studio album, Stronger, was released on October 24, 2011.
On October 20, 2013 Kelly married talent manager Brandon Blackstock, whom she had met 20 months prior to their wedding. They have two children: daughter River Rose Blackstock (born on June 12, 2014) and son Alexander Remington Blackstock (born on April 12, 2016).
