Pete Burns – Dead or Alive
Pete Burns was a British singer and songwriter, best known as the lead singer of Dead or Alive. He became popular in 1985 with the release of the single You Spin Me Round (Like a Record). He also was a television personality. He appeared on further television reality shows including Celebrity Big Brother 4, in which he finished in fifth place.
Peter Burns was born in August 5, 1959 in Port-Sanlayte (English county of Merseyside). His father was an Englishman, and his mother was a Jew from German Heidelberg.
His biography is more like a tangled series – his personal life combined with the singer’s career, plastic surgery and scandals.
At first Pete attracted the attention of the public only thanks to his outrageous appearance, but then he released the single You Spin Me Round (Like a Record), which received the status of gold, being sold in an amount of more than 500 000 copies and took the top places in the charts worldwide (# 1 UK Singles Chart).
At the start of his career, Burns worked in Probe Records in Liverpool. This store was known as a meeting place for budding young musicians. Pete was a member of Mystery Girls and Nightmares in Wax, played in the style of goth-punk. Nightmares in Wax released singles Black Leather and Birth of a Nation, but has not created any albums yet.
His career began when he founded Dead or Alive. Then the whole world knew him as a talented artist, composer and musician. However, he was not entirely happy with his appearance. In his youth, Pete Burns attracted attention and was the idol of many girls, but after many experiments on his face, the attitude towards him changed.
Pete Burns became a victim of plastic surgery. He had bright blue eyes, regular shape lips and straight nose. But it wasn’t his standard of beauty. At first he decided to pump up his lips with silicone, then fix their form then enlarge the mouth. As a result, the number of operations on the face was more than one hundred. When Pete decided to return everything back, surgeons said it was impossible. Tattooed male hands coexist with a woman’s face.
In 2006 he released a book Freak Unique: My Autobiography.
In August 1980, Pete married his girlfriend Lynne Corlett, whom he met when she came to Probe Shops. They separated in 2006. Later he married actor Michael Simpson.
Pete Burns died of a heart attack on October 23, 2016, at the age of 57.
