Tyron Woodley – professional fighter
Tyron Woodley is an American professional MMA fighter, former freestyle wrestler. In 2013 he appeared in the UFC. He is the UFC welterweight champion.
Tyron Lanklet Woodley was born on April 17, 1982 in Ferguson, Missouri. Tyron was the eleventh of thirteen children into the family of Sylvester and Deborah Woodley. He was raised by his mother, as his father left the family when Tyron was 10 years old. In 2000 the boy graduated from McCluer High School. He was a member of the American football school team. In 2000 Tyron became the champion of Missouri in wrestling. In the same year he participated in the United States Wrestling Championship and took the third place among juniors.
In 2005 Tyron graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in agriculture. As a student he was the captain of the university wrestling team from 2003 to 2005, in 2003 he was the winner of the Big 12 Conference. In 2003 and 2005 he was an All-American athlete in wrestling.
His career in mixed martial arts Tyrone began at the local sports club. He won the first fight by knockout in the first round in 20 seconds.
His first professional fight was on February 7, 2009 in Columbia, Missouri vs. Steve Schneider. Tyron won by TKO in a minute. The second fight was on April 30, 2009 against Jeff Carstens. Tyron won in 48 seconds.
On June 6, 2009 Tyron’s debut fight against Salvador Woods took place at Strikeforce Tournament. Tyron won a TKO at the end of the first round.
In 2009, Tyron won Prospect of the year award by ULTMMA.
Until July 2012 he had 8 fights on the professional ring in Strikeforce without a single defeat.
In 2010, Tyron was named Rising Star of the Year.
On July 14, 2012 in Portland, Oregon Nate Marquardt defeated Woodley. It was the first defeat of Tyron in a professional career in MMA.
The first fight under the UFC was on February 2, 2013 Tyron vs. Jay Chiron. Tyron won in 36 seconds. On November 16, 2013 Tyron defeated Josh D. Koscheck and won Knockout of the Night award.
On August 23, 2014 as part of UFC Fight Night 48 show in Macau Tyron defeated Korean Dong Hyun Kim and was awarded Performance of the Night prize.
On January 31, 2015 at UFC 183 Tyron defeated Kelvin Gastelum.
On July 30, 2016 at UFC 201 he defeated Robbie Lawler and became the UFC welterweight champion.
Woodley starred in such films as Blunt Force (2014), Straight Outta Compton (2015) and Kickboxer (2016).
Woodley is married and has 3 sons and a daughter.
