Robert De Niro – great actor
Robert De Niro is an American actor, film director and producer. He is a winner of Golden Globe (1981, 2011) and Oscar (1975, he became the first actor in history to received it for the foreign language role in 1981). He is one of the greatest American actors of his generation.
Robert De Niro, Jr. was born on August 17, 1943 in New York. His father, Robert De Niro Sr., was a sculptor, painter and poet. His mother, Virginia Admiral, also sold paintings. His parents had a salon in Greenwich Village that attracted other artists and intellectuals. They divorced when their son was a young child.
At the age of 10 Robert played the role of the Cowardly Lion in a school play The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. At the age of 16, De Niro got his first paying role, in a production of Chekhov’s The Bear. De Niro attended the Stella Adler courses, as well as Lee Strasberg Actors Studio.
In 1963, the actor starred in Brian De Palma’s film Wedding Party. However, due to the bankruptcy of the company the film was released in 1969.
In 1973, De Niro played the role of a baseball player Bruce Pearson in Bang the Drum Slowly and received New York Film Critics Award.
For the role of Don Vito in Francis Ford Coppola’s film The Godfather 2 Robert was awarded Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. In the film, Vito Corleone speaks Italian, so De Niro became an American actor awarded Oscar for the foreign language role. Marlon Brando and Robert De Niro were the only artists awarded Oscar for the presentation of the same character, but in different years.
In 1980, the actor played in Martin Scorsese’s film Raging Bull which won two Oscar awards.
In 1993 he tried his hand as a director of the film A Bronx Tale. In the same year his father died and the film was a dedication to Robert De Niro Sr.
In 1995, Robert De Niro, together with Al Pacino starred in the film Fight.
In 2009, the actor was awarded Britain award for his personal contribution to the development of cinema.
In January 2011, Robert was awarded the second Golden Globe for his contribution to cinema throughout his career.
In November 2012, he starred in Last Vegas together with Michael Douglas, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Kline.
He is one of the greatest actors of all time according to Rolling Stone magazine.
In addition to successful acting career, De Niro is a successful restaurateur. He is the owner of several networks of different cafes and restaurants, including the world-famous Nobu.
Personal life
Actress and singer of African-American descent Dianne Abbott was the first wife of the actor. De Niro adopted her child. From his first marriage De Niro also has a son, Raphael. In 1988 their marriage broke up.
For a long time the actor had a relationship with former model Tookie Smith. In 1995, surrogate mother gave birth to twin boys.
In 1997, Robert married Grace Hightower, a former flight attendant. In 1998 their son was born and in 2011 they became parents of a daughter.
