Diana, Princess of Wales was the most charismatic and publicly adored member of the British royal family. From 1981 to 1996, she was the first the wife of Prince Charles of Wales, heir to the British throne. She was widely known as Princess Diana, Lady Diana and Lady Di. In 2002, according to the survey, Diana took the third place in the list of one hundred greatest Britons in history. She became the most photographed woman in the world.
Diana, Princess of Wales was born Diana Frances Spencer on July 1, 1961 in Sandringham, Norfolk. She was the third of the Lord and Lady Althorp’s four children. Her parents got divorced when she was very young. In 1976 the Earl Spencer married Raine Legge, the daughter of British romance novelist Barbara Cartland. His children and their stepmother had a stormy relationship. Diana went to a private girls’ school in Switzerland. When she returned to England, she worked as a kindergarten teacher.

Prince Charles was a friend of the Spencer family. Their courtship became public. Prince Charles and Diana got married in 1981. The ceremony took place in London’s St. Paul’s Cathedral. Diana was the first British woman to marry the heir to the throne since 1659, when Prince James married Lady Anne Hyde. They had two sons. Prince William was born in June of 1982. Harry was born two years later in September of 1984.
In 1992 Princess Diana and Prince Charles separated and divorced four years later in 1996. Charles had long-time love affair with Mrs. Camilla Parker-Bowles. Andrew Morton, the author of one of three biographies of Diana, alleged that Diana attempted suicide five times in the early 1980s—the first only six months after the wedding, while she was pregnant with William. The episodes were characterized as cries for help.
In 1995, Princess Diana spent two days in Moscow. During these days, she visited school 751 and Tushino Children’s Hospital.
Diana worked with the poor, with people who had AIDS, and with people who had drug problems. Everyone loved her. In June 1997 Diana met Mother Teresa in New York City’s South Bronx.

In 1997, Diana had a romance with Egyptian millionaire Dodi al-Fayed.
Diana died on August 31, 1997 in Paris in a car crash. She was only 36 years old.
More than 100 different songs devoted to Diana. The most famous of them – Candle In The Wind (Goodbye England’s Rose) by Elton John. Russian band Aquarium wrote the song 4D. By the way, Diana’s favorite group was DuranDuran.
Many actresses dreamed to play Diana in the movie. In 2012 thousands of actresses came to the casting. Australian actress Naomi Watts was chosen for the role of the Princess in the film ‘Diana. Love Story’.
