Bruce Springsteen – rock and folk musician

Bruce Springsteen is an American rock and folk musician and songwriter, cultural icon. He became known for his rock songs with poetic texts, the main theme of which is his birthplace, New Jersey. According to Rolling Stone magazine he is on the 23th place in the list of the greatest singers in music history. He is a winner of twenty Grammy, Oscar and Golden Globe awards.
Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen was born on September 23, 1949 in Freehold, New Jersey. He was the first child and only son of Adele and Douglas Springsteen. Two girls, Ginny and Pam, would follow. Springsteen was inspired to pursue a career in music after seeing Elvis Presley and the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show. 13-year-old Bruce got a guitar as a present from his mother. The first song the young boy learned to play was Twist and Shout by The Beatles.
In adolescence Springsteen played in several rock bands. One of these bands was The Castiles. By the early 1970s he settled in New York’s Greenwich Village, where he performed songs.

In January 1973 he released his debut album Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. followed by The Wild, the Innocent & the E-Street Shuffle.
In 1974, Springsteen created E-Street Band – ensemble, which was intended to accompany him during his US tours.
His third album Born to Run was released in August 1975 and Springsteen became the most sought after character in the American music industry. His photos were on the cover of Time and Newsweek magazines, concerts gathered full stadiums of fans.
In 1978, Springsteen wrote the song Because the Night for Patti Smith, which became her biggest hit. In the same year he released his next album, Darkness on the Edge of Town.
In October 1980 he released a double album The River.
In June 1984, Springsteen’s next album, Born in the U.S.A., became a phenomenon not only of rock, but also popular music. The album became ten times platinum. In the wake of his triumph Springsteen toured the US and Europe for two years.

Springsteen met model and actress Julianne Phillips in the summer of 1984, and they married in May of 1985. Springsteen released Tunnel of Love in 1987 and became romantically involved with backup singer and guitarist Patti Scialfa. The two had known each other for many years from the New Jersey music scene and had begun to work together during the Born in the U.S.A. tour. Springsteen and his wife divorced, and he and Scialfa married in June 1991. They had three children: Evan, Jessica, and Sam.
The song Streets of Philadelphia written for the movie Philadelphia (1993) received Oscar award.
During the 1990s and 2000s Springsteen earned many Grammy awards, including the statuette for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance (2002, the song The Rising).
In 2009 Billboard magazine named Bruce Springsteen one of the highest paid musicians.
He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 15, 1999.
His first 8 albums are included in the list of the 500 greatest albums of all time according to Rolling Stone magazine.
In July 2013 documentary film by Baillie Walsh Springsteen and I was released.
A minor planet was named after Springsteen – 23990 Springsteen. It was described on September 4, 1999 by astronomer Griffin from Auckland, New Zealand.
