Marlon Brando – legend of American cinema
Marlon Brando was an American film and television actor, film director and political activist. He is one of the greatest actors in the history of cinema. The result of a half-century career of the actor became an arsenal of diametrically opposite roles: revolutionary Emiliano Zapata (Viva Zapata!, 1952), the Roman commander Mark Antony (Julius Caesar, 1953), biker Johnny Strabler (Savage, 1953), port worker Terry Malloy (On the Waterfront, 1954), Vito Corleone (The Godfather, 1972), he – Paul (Last Tango in Paris, 1972), scientist Jor-El (Superman, 1978) and Colonel Walter Kurtz (Apocalypse Now, 1979). In 1961, Brando stood behind the camera and filmed western One-Eyed Jacks. He was a winner of two Oscar (1955, 1973), two Golden Globe (1955, 1973) and three British Academy Awards (1953, 1954, 1955). He had starred in 40 films, many of which were in the golden fund of world cinema.
Marlon Brando was born on April 3, 1924 in Omaha, Nebraska. His father, Marlon Brando, Sr., was the owner of his own business. He was engaged in manufacturing of feed for farm and domestic animals. His mother Dorothy played in the local theater and was familiar with actor Henry Fonda. Marlon was the youngest child in the family. He had elder sisters, Jocelyn and Frances.
