Nicole Kidman – Australian and American actress

Nicole Kidman is an Australian and American actress, singer and producer. She was a winner of Oscar in 2003 for her role in The Hours (the first actress from Australia to receive the award in Best Actress category). Nicole also received three Golden Globe awards (1996, 2002, 2003).
Nicole Mary Kidman was born on June 20, 1967 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Her parents were born in Australia. For a while Nicole’s father worked as a specialist in the study of cancer cells in the Washington, DC, USA. When the future actress was 4 years old, her family moved back to Australia: Nicole’s father got a job at the Technical University of Sydney. She has a younger sister – Antonia Kidman (born in 1970) – journalist and television presenter.
At the age of four Nicole started practicing ballet. Passion for dance led her to the Australian Theatre for Young People and then to Philip Street Theater. Nicole had to leave school as her mother fell ill with breast cancer, and the girl was forced to devote herself to the care of the family.

In 1982, at the age of 15, Kidman appeared in a remake of the classic Australian film Christmas in the Forest, which is often shown during the New Year holidays. The following year the actress received a supporting role in the TV series Five Mile Creek. By the mid-1980s Kidman had gained popularity in Australia, she appeared in the films BMX Bandits (group Wheatus wrote the song BMX Bandits on this film), Watch the Shadows Dance and the romantic comedy Windrider.
In 1988, Kidman starred in Emerald City, staged on the eponymous play by David Williamson. For this role she was nominated for an Australian Film Institute Award in the Best Supporting Actress category. In addition, Nicole played a major role in the dramatic miniseries Bangkok Hilton.
In 1989, Kidman received a role in the thriller Dead Calm – she played Ray Ingram, the wife of a naval officer. The film was successful and the actress finally received international fame.
After the success of Dead Calm, Nicole made her debut in American cinema. She was invited to Hollywood, where she received a role in the film Days of Thunder. In the film she starred together with her future husband, actor Tom Cruise.
In 1991, Kidman starred with her former classmate and best friend Naomi Watts and Thandie Newton in the independent film Flirt. In the same year her role in the film Billy Bathgate brought Nicole the first nomination for Golden Globe. The following year, Kidman and Cruise once again starred together in the film Far and Away by Ron Howard.
In 1993 Kidman starred in the dramatic film My Life with Michael Keaton and the thriller Malice with Alec Baldwin and Bill Pullman.
In 1995, Kidman starred in the blockbuster Batman Forever, as Dr. Chase Meridian. Her partners became Val Kilmer, who played Batman, Jim Carrey, Tommy Lee Jones, Chris O’Donnell, Drew Barrymore.

In the same year Nicole starred in a satirical black comedy To Die For. Her next role was the role of Isabel Archer in Portrait of a Lady, based on the novel by Henry James. The following year, Kidman played the lead female role of Dr. Julia Kelly in the political thriller The Peacemaker with George Clooney.
Her real breakthrough was in 2001 in Moulin Rouge! For this film, the actress was nominated for Oscar award.
The next milestone in the career of the actress was the role of Grace Stewart in a mystical thriller The Others by Alejandro Amenabar.
In 2001, the actress played the complex role of the English writer Virginia Woolf in the film The Hours, directed by Stephen Daldry.
In 2003, the actress starred along with Anthony Hopkins in the film adaptation of the famous novel The Human Stain by Philip Roth.

In 2009, Variety magazine reported that Nicole was going to become the producer and play a major role in the film adaptation of the novel by Clive Chris Little Bee.
In addition, Kidman starred in the title role in the film The Invasion by the German director Oliver Hirschbiegel. Her partners were Daniel Craig and Veronica Cartwright.

Nicole Kidman is also known as a singer. She sang her own party in the film Moulin Rouge! and recorded single Somethin Stupid with British singer Robbie Williams, which took the first place in the UK singles chart. In the musical Nine she performed the classic song Unusual Way.
Kidman became the face of the perfume brand Chanel No. 5. The multi-million dollar promotional video titled N° 5 the Film is the most expensive in the history of business. Kidman even got into the Guinness Book of Records thanks to the highest advertising fee of $ 3.7 million.
The actress also became the face of the Omega, Swiss watch company.
In 2006, the actress received the highest honorary award of the country, when she was awarded the Order of Civil Australia.

Personal life
In the 1980s the actress had a love affair with Australian actor Marcus Graham.
In 1989 Kidman married actor Tom Cruise. They adopted two children – Isabella Jane (born on December 22 19900 and Connor Anthony (BORN ON January 17, 1995). The couple divorced in February 2001.

It is also believed that Kidman had a love affair with actor Tobey Maguire (who is much younger than the actress) and musician Robbie Williams.
Nicole had a relationship with musician Lenny Kravitz, whom she met in 2003 and broke up in 2004.
In January 2005, the actress met Australian singer Keith Urban. They got married on June 25, 2006. On July 7, 2008 their daughter was born. On December 28, 2010 the couple’s second daughter was born by a surrogate mother, but she is the biological daughter of Kidman and Urban.
